MSEE with a Concentration in the Biomedical Applications of Electrical Engineering
The core and elective courses offered through this degree plan are designed to provide a graduate level foundation in biomedical applications and advanced methods in electrical engineering.

Biomedical applications of electrical engineering are increasingly common. This concentration exposes students to biomedical problems in the context of their graduate work toward a master’s degree in electrical engineering. This degree is suitable for students with an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering and related sciences. Core Courses (5)
1) Anatomy and Human Physiology for Electrical Engineers
2) Genes, Proteins and Cell Biology for Electrical Engineers
3) Lecture Course in Biomedical Applications of EE
In addition to these three courses, students must take two courses from the core courses of one of the other areas of concentration: communications and signal processing; digital systems; circuits and systems; optical devices, materials and systems; solid-state devices and micro systems fabrication; or RF and microwave engineering.
It is highly recommended that students take an independent study course with an EE faculty member that will be counted as one of their EE electives. The independent study course is intended to gear the coursework toward one of the following research areas in the department: biosensors, biomedical signal processing, bioinstrumentation, medical imaging, biomaterials or bio-applications in RF.
Electives Outside the EE Department
Depending on the specific orientation of a student’s course of study, it may be very beneficial to take courses from other departments (such as Biology, Chemistry, Brain and Behavioral Sciences, or Computer Science/bioinformatics). No more than three approved courses can typically be taken outside the EE department. Additional courses can be taken only with explicit approval by the department head.
Upon admission, students will be assigned an adviser who will approve their degree plan and all changes to it.
